NBC announces major broadcast change ahead of NFL season with special commentary guest


NBC is bringing back a broadcast legend for the Hall of Fame Game.

Even if it is for just one game, Brent Musberger is returning to an NFL broadcast booth.

Musberger received the 2025 Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award this year[/caption]

NBC Sports announced that Musberger will have multiple different involvements in the broadcast of the Detroit Lions vs Los Angeles Chargers preseason game.

Musberger was the recipient of the 2025 Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award, and will be honored for that in a pregame interview with Maria Taylor.

After that, he will join Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth in the broadcast booth for the second half of the game.

The 86-year old Musberger had an illustrious broadcasting career.

He was the original host of The NFL Today on CBS and served on the halftime show of Monday Night Football.

Musberger served on multiple Super Bowl broadcast and was the play-by-play voice of the Las Vegas Raiders from 2018 to 2022.

He is well known for college football, the NBA, and many other major events from the 1980s to 2010s.

On top of all that, he created the term March Madness.

Musberger has largely stepped away from broadcasting, but still serves on VSiN in Las Vegas.

His return to national TV is a special tribute after his award win.


Many in the broadcasting industry pushed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame to honor him, and they did.

Fans are thrilled to have Musberger back on TV and shared theur thoughts on social media.

“Brent Musberger was the best,” one fan said.

“Brent Musburger was the best College Football broadcaster of all time,” another fan said.

February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California

The Hall of Fame Game kicks off at 8:00 pm ET on Thursday.
