According to the Athletic, not only will Collinsworth be on the call for the Week 1 Sunday Night Football matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills, but he is set to be on TV screens for years to come.
According to The Athletic, Collinsworth is set to sign a four-year extension with NBC.
The deal would keep him on the broadcast through the 2029-30 season.
It would also put Collinsworth in the booth for the Super Bowl in 2026 and 2030.
Details have yet to be revealed, but the deal would keep Collinsworth in the booth until past 70 years old.
According to The Athletic, Collinsworth makes $12.5 million per season.
That is low compared to his color commentator peers at other networks.
Tom Brady is an outlier, making $37.5 per season with Fox.
However, CBS’ Tony Romo and ESPN’s Troy Aikman are each making a reported $18 million per year.
None of those networks are of the same caliber as Sunday Night Football either, which has ranked at the top of American primetime shows for 13 years.
For a moment, it seemed possible that Collinsworth could have been replaced on Sunday Night Football.
The Athletic reported that fan-favorite commentator Greg Olsen was in consideration to replace Collinsworth if he wasn’t to return.
That ended up not being the case, and Collinsworth will be back on TV screens every Sunday night.
Fans are thrilled to have him back this year, and shared their thoughts on social media.
“Hearing Cris Collinsworth voice after 6 months is a warm hug,” one fan said.
