THE NCAA has announced a major college football rule change for spring 2026.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day has spoken out against these rule changes, but the NCAA has elected to follow through.

On Wednesday, the governing body declared that college football would be moving to a single offseason transfer portal window.
The Division I Administrative Committee voted to eliminate the spring transfer window effective immediately.
They will move away from the previous system, which allowed players to submit their names to the portal for thirty days throughout winter and spring.
However, it has not been decided whether January 2-11 will be the lone portal window for FBS and FCS players.
This is after the FBS Oversight Committee voted to move the winter portal from December to January earlier this month.
This would mean that if players wanted to transfer schools for the 2026 season, they would have ten days to enter their name into the NCAA transfer portal.
The vote for this change is expected to occur next month.
The main aim of the switch is to ease the pressure on the calendar in December.
Currently, coaching changes, bowl practices and games, transfer recruiting, and the high school signing day all collide at the end of the year.
However, if it were to be voted through, the January transfer window would open straight after the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
And could overlap with semifinals, the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
Day hit out against the college football changes earlier in September.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “No, I don’t think it’s a good idea at all.
“And the conversations we had with the Big Ten coaches, I think the majority of them agree.
“I just don’t quite understand how teams that are playing in the playoffs are expected to make the decisions and sign their upcoming players while they’re still getting ready to play for games.
“It doesn’t make any sense to me.”
However, some staff think this change is for the better.
Nebraska coach Matt Rhule told CBS Sports, “I desperately think one window is better.
“Basketball has one window. So it’s not like we’re the first sport to do it. We’re just making ourselves whole like the other sports.”
A FBS general manager commented, “Having to retain your roster twice a year was ridiculous.”
