During the second quarter of Sunday’s game, Gibson suffered a nasty knee injury.
While returning a kickoff, the 27-year-old back took a big hit from Buffalo cornerback Cam Lewis.
Gibson planted his leg just before the hit, which sent him airborne before coming down hard onto the ground.
He fumbled the ball, which was recovered by teammate TreVeyon Henderson, but he was instantly seen clutching at his knee.
This ruled him out for the rest of the game.
He was helped off the field and was visibly upset with tears in his eyes.
Head coach Mike Vrabel was asked for updates later, but only commented, “Nothing to add.
“He’ll go through some tests [Monday] morning, and we’ll have to see what comes from those.”
Fans have since taken to X to wish Gibson their best.
One said, “Honestly, never want to see that.
“Man’s not only seeing his livelihood pass by but the game he’s loved his whole life. That hits different.”
Another commented, “I feel for him. Great dude.”
A third wrote, “That was hard to see.”
Gibson was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by Washington out of the University of Memphis.
