New Lamar Jackson injury timetable revealed with Baltimore Ravens reeling after another heavy defeat

LAMAR JACKSON has been given an updated timeline for his return from injury as he races to be fit for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The explosive quarterback has been battling a hamstring injury he picked up last month against the Kansas City Chiefs.

His absence was felt at the weekend as the Ravens slumped to a massive 44-10 defeat at the hands of the Houston Texans.

Now it appears the 28-year-old’s return is on the horizon, but it will be a race against time to see if he can compete against the Rams on Sunday.

FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer issued an update on the Ravens star’s recovery on Sunday’s pregame show.

He said: “I was told there’s an outside shot for next week, so they don’t want to shut it down yet,”

“But the bye is coming after that, obviously.

“If they decide to (hold) him out next week, then they get three weeks of rest for him, but they’re not saying he’s out yet for next week.”

The two-time NFL MVP had enjoyed a strong start to the season before picking up the injury a few weeks ago.

He was caught out and sacked by George Karlaftis, picking up a hamstring strain in the process and being forced to watch the rest of the 37-20 loss from the sidelines.

Sunday’s blowout was the first time Jackson had missed an NFL game since a knee injury sidelined him at the end of the 2022 season.

But his absence only exaggerated the cracks that were already on show on the East Coast.

Even with the four-time Pro Bowler leading the offense, the Ravens managed just one win from their opening three games.

The two injury-stricken losses since have taken that total to a concerning 1-4 on the season thus far.

The AFC North giants look a far cry from the team that cruised to the postseason last year, as their problems seem far deeper than missing their figurehead on the field.

Head coach John Harbaugh was himself dismissive of the idea that Jackson’s absence was responsible for Sunday’s demolition in Baltimore.

He told the media following the result: “It was not up to standard.

“We had good enough players out there to play a lot better than we did. It’s just disappointing.”

But back-up quarterback Cooper Rush especially struggled against the Texans defense, throwing three interceptions from 20 attempts.

The Rams will be hoping they get to face a similar performance from the former Dallas Cowboys thrower this weekend.

It would be the second back-up quarterback they have faced in as many weeks.

The 3-2 outfit were handed a 26-23 defeat at the weekend by a San Francisco 49ers offense led by Mac Jones – following Brock Purdy‘s ongoing issues with a toe injury.
