RUSSELL Wilson is getting dangerously close to being benched by the New York Giants.

The noise is growing louder from the Giants fanbase regarding Wilson’s status as the starting quarterback.

With the team starting 0-3, Jaxson Dart is at the front of every Giants fan’s mind.

On Sunday night, Wilson passed for 160 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

The worst part of his night came on a 1st-and-goal from the Chiefs’ four-yard line.

New York was trailing 22-9, needing a score to have any hope at a comeback.

Wilson ended up throwing the ball out of the back of the end zone three times and rushing for one short game.

He was greeted with a chorus of boos for his effort.

Wilson tried to explain the poor performance in his postgame conference.

“There are highs and lows and always tough moments,” Wilson said.

“You got to have thick skin, you know what I mean? You got to be able to know who you are, the player that you are, know what you’re capable of.

“Obviously I’ve been able to show that throughout my career and obviously last week and everything else, too, what we’re capable of as an offense.

“I think they made a couple more plays than us today. I think it was a 9-6 game for most of the game. Pretty tight.

“We needed one or two big plays. Unfortunately didn’t come our way.”

So far through three games, Wilson has passed for 778 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

At this Wilson doesn’t have much time to prove that he should remain as the starter for the Giants.

The Giants invested a first-round pick In Dart, and could look to utilize him sooner rather than later.

In the next two weeks, the Giants face off against the Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints.

If they can’t get a win in either of those games, Wilson will likely be relegated to the bench.

According to head coach Brian Daboll, the team is currently “evaluating everything” in the team’s quarterback situation.
