Linebacker Micah McFadden, 25, was carted off during their defeat with a leg injury.
The injury occured as he attempted to tackle Commanders’ running back Austin Ekeler, 30.
He was spotted on the sidelines with his foot in a boot following the injury.
It has now been confirmed that he will miss a substantial amount of time.
This comes as it was confirmed that McFadden would have foot surgery.
Second-year Darius Muasau, 24, is set to take his place as a starter.
Muasau took McFadden’s place on the field as the Giants suffered an embarrassing defeat.
The replacement linebacker was immediately exploited as Commanders tight end Zach Ertz, 34, went over for a touchdown.
This handed Washington the lead, with Giants kicker Graham Gano, 38, only clawing back two field goals.
Coach Brian Daboll has confirmed that Russell Wilson will remain at quarterback despite suggestions that he could be dropped.
This means that Wilson will once again line up for the side as they travel to face the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.
Rookie Jaxson Dart had been suggested as an alternative at quarterback for the Giants.
McFadden’s impact will be missed in New York as he has been immense for the Giants over the past two seasons.
He established himself as a starter in 2022, playing the majority of games over the following two years.

This is a particular blow as he is approaching the end of his rookie contract.
He is yet to sign an extension with the Giants to keep him at the franchise.
McFadden’s future in the NFL is now in doubt as he hopes to secure a new deal to keep him at the MetLife Stadium.
