The Jets have signed veteran running back Khalil Herbert as his replacement.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport took to X to explain the situation.
He tweeted, “Jets RB Braelon Allen, who was ruled out last night with a knee injury, suffered an MCL sprain that will likely land him on Injured Reserve, sources say.
“Allen is expected to receive addition opinions.”
He followed this up with news of Allen’s replacement.
He wrote, “The Jets have signed RB Khalil Herbert and officially placed RB Braelon Allen (knee) on IR.
“He’s likely to be out longer than four weeks.”
Allen was picked up in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Jets in the fourth round, and for a while, he was the youngest player in the NFL.
The 21-year-old has three rushing touchdowns in his career so far, as well as one receiving score.
His replacement, Herbert, is in his fifth year in the NFL.
He was drafted in 2021 from Virginia Tech by the Chicago Bears.
They selected him with the 217th overall pick and he remained in Illisnois until 2024.
During his fourth season in the NFL, he was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he remained for the rest of the year.
Heading into this season, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts, but was released in August as part of the final roster cuts.
