The incident happened at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday.
The New York Jets were beginning their season with a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Shortly before kickoff, the team unfurled a flag that covered the full field.
But as the Star Spangled Banner began to play, fans spotted something strange on the field.
A man was seen crawling from on top of the flag.
He apparently somehow became trapped on top of the giant Star Spangled Banner.
And he was forced to make a rather long and embarrassing crawl to escape.
The clip went viral on X.
“How does that even happen,” one NFL fan wondered.
“The crawl of shame,” another said.
While a third posted, “Typical Jets stuff.”
And a fourth said, “Only the Jets could do something like this.”
The flag incident was the first moment of an entertaining afternoon.
The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the New York Jets 34-32.
Chris Boswell made a 60-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter to seal a dramatic win.

Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes for the Steelers against his former team.
Rodgers was released by the Jets after two disastrous seasons with the team.
He signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in June.
And Rodgers exacted revenge on his former team in Week 1.
His opposite number Fields, meanwhile, ran in for two touchdowns.
