NFL rookie announces he will sit out of entire 2025 season for worrying ‘complicated personal’ issue

A LATE-ROUND NFL draft pick has announced he won’t play his entire 2025 rookie season due to a personal reason.

The 2025 season will begin in less than two weeks as teams have prepared to trim down their rosters.

The league’s teams were forced to cut players to end up with a 53-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s deadline at 4:00 pm ET.

However, one team announced that a player will stick with the team but will not play in the upcoming campaign.

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles revealed that the team placed cornerback Zah Frazier on the reserve/non-football injury (NFI) list

A little bit of a complicated deal because he’s going to go on NFI,” Poles said.

He had a situation that presented itself in a category that I would say (is) personal.

As we dug into it, tried to help him out, it revealed itself as something that happened before he got here.

So, credit to our staff finding the root cause of what he was going through.

So, he’ll be down for the year but he’ll spend time going to meetings, in the weight room and the medical staff preparing for next season to get ready to play.

The Bears drafted Frazier with the No. 169 pick in the draft.

The 24-year-old last practiced during the team’s rookie minicamp in May, per ESPN.

Frazier reportedly appeared at the August 20 practice.

It was his first appearance at training camp as he was on a golf cart with Bears staff members.

Frazier entered the NFL as an older prospect.

During the Scouting Combine, he wowed in the 40-yard dash with a 4.36 time.

Poles shared that Frazier will still attend meetings, work in the weight room, and work with the team’s medical staff to make his debut in the 2026 season.

With the Bears not having Frazier’s services, they have activated star corner Jaylon Johnson in hopes of having him suit up for the Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.

Chicago will hope to improve after a disappointing 2024 campaign in which they finished 5-12.
