Delta confirmed that flight 1334, which was a Boeing 757 traveling from Atlanta, Georgia, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Monday, was diverted because of a battery fire.
“Flight attendants worked quickly to extinguish a probably burning personal battery belonging to a customer while pilots followed procedures to safely divert the flight,” a spokesperson told USA Today.
The plane was abruptly landed at Southwest Florida International Airport where first responders were waiting to make sure everyone was safe.
One passenger filmed a now-viral video capturing the moment firefighters in full suits walked down the aisles as flyers remained in their seats.
“We have to wait for the fire department to clear the plane,” the TikToker said in the post.
