The Food and Drug Administration announced it was recalling Nature’s Own Pet Chews Bully Bites on October 3.
The FDA said some of the treats in the one-pound bags may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Best Buy Bones, Inc. in Mount Morris, Michigan, produces Nature’s Own Pet Chews Bully Bites.
Anyone who owns a bag with an expiration date of September 2027 may have contaminated treats.
Salmonella can affect both the animals that eat contaminated products and the humans who touch them.
Humans who handle the pet treats and have not thoroughly washed their hands may be able to contaminate any products or surfaces they touch after.
If humans consume contaminated products, they may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or bloody diarrhea.
Other symptoms include abdominal cramping and a fever.
Although rare, Salmonella can also cause muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract infections.
Anyone with these symptoms should see a doctor immediately.
If a pet consumes a contaminated product, it may exhibit similar symptoms.
Pets are more likely to be lethargic and have diarrhea.
Animals may also experience a fever or vomiting.
In some cases, pets may have a decreased appetite, fever, or abdominal pain.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a bacterial infection that attacks the intestines, usually spread through contaminated food or water.
Symptoms:
- Diarrhea
- Stomach cramps
- Fever
- Nausea or vomiting
- Chills and headache
- Blood in stool
How long it lasts
Most people recover in a few days to a week, though diarrhea can linger up to 10 days.

Pets that are infected but otherwise healthy should still be treated for Salmonella.
Even if they don’t show symptoms, they can be carriers and affect others.
No illness in dogs has been reported to date.
The risk was first discovered on September 11, 2025.
The FDA tested the product and found it to be positive for Salmonella.
After testing positive, the company ceased production and initiated an investigation into the cause of the issue.
Anyone who bought the 16 oz. bags of Nature’s Own Pet Chews Bully Bites after September 23, 2025, should return or destroy the bag.
Customers are urged not to feed the product to pets or any other animals and to sanitize everything it touched.
