WINTERS could bring a surprise twist for parts of the US, with one state bracing for a colder and wetter season than expected.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac released its 2025-2026 forecast on Tuesday, covering all 18 regions of the United States and Canada.

In the Pacific Northwest, conditions will split sharply depending on which side Cascades you live.

East of the mountains, the Intermountain region is expected to see “mild and wet” season.

The forecast calls for mixed precipitation, fluctuating snow totals, and the coldest blasts in late November, early December, and early February.

Snowfall is predicted to be below normal in the north, although late January, early February, and late March could bring the snowiest periods.

West of the Cascades, the season looks warmer than normal.

Oregon and Washington residents should expect plenty of rain instead of snow.

But snow will be scarce, replaces with steady drizzle and damp, gray days.

“Expect misty mornings, overcast afternoons, and the occasional winter drizzle that keeps the region lush,” the Almanac warned.

It added that locals can plan for the “rhythmic patter of rain throughout the season.”

Earlier this month, the Farmer’s Almanac predicted “consistent cold snaps” and a “chilly, wet” winter for the Northwest.

Nationwide, the overall picture is milder.

Most regions are set for near-normal or slightly warmer conditions.

But from the Appalachians down through the Southeast and Florida, and across the Ohio Valley, the outlook flips to colder-than-normal.

“Don’t lose track of your snow shovels and umbrellas,” Almanac stated.

While much of the US will stay near normal, the Southeast and Ohio Valley should prepare for deeper chill.

Precipitation across the country is expected to run drier than usual, with some stretches of extended dryness.

Still, Florida, the Intermountain region, and the eastern Desert Southwest may buck the trend with wetter conditions.

Snowfall looks light in most states.

But heavier totals are on tap for the Carolinas, southern Appalachians, eastern Ohio Valley, southern Rockies, and eastrn Desert Southwest.

The Almanac urged Americans not to confuse “mild” with snow-free, warning winter gear will still be needed.
