Over 16million Brits told to retune their TVs NOW to unlock 3 new channels in major Freeview update

MILLIONS of Brits are being urged to retune their TVs after major changes were made to the channels.

Telly fans will see changes to three channels and the cancellation of an ITV favourite.

The reshuffle is happening today, so make sure to update your Freeview box.

A spokesperson said: “On 16th July 2025, some broadcasters are making changes to their channels.

“You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date. ”

India Today, on channel 258, will now be available for Freeview users.

Two GREAT! channels will also move to different locations.

GREAT! Movies, which was on channel 34 and GREAT! TV, on channel 50 will be swapping over.

GREAT! airs a variety of popular TV shows from crime drama “Murder, She Wrote” to hit series “M*A*S*H”.

Its movie channel also shows an array of films, with a particular focus on action and adventure genres.

ITVBe+1, which was on channel 93, will be removed.

The channel, known for showing reality TV series, was first launched in 2014.

In a press release issued earlier this year, an ITV spokesperson said: “TOWIE and RHOCH (Real Housewives) join a rich schedule of returning formats, including Love Island and Big Brother, and exciting new commissions which are lined up throughout the remainder of 2025 on ITV2, and will continue to stream on ITVX.

“The supercharged ITV2 offering also includes animated comedies (Family Guy), original commissions (G’Wed and Transaction), blockbuster movies and younger-skewing factual entertainment, like Olivia Attwood’s Price of Perfection, which are all also strong performers on ITVX.”

In response to the changes, a Freeview spokesperson said: “Channels are constantly evolving on Freeview with individual channels making the decision to move, add or remove channels.

“Freeview continues to ensure that audiences can enjoy a rich and varied content .”

To retune your TV, simply press the menu on your box or remote control.

Select ‘set-up’, ‘installation’, ‘update’, or a similar option.

If you’re asked for a password and haven’t previously set one, the default code is 1234 or 0000.

Select ‘first-time installation’, or ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’.

Make sure to hit the ‘ok’ button if your kit asks if it’s ok to delete existing channels.

The Freeview added: “If you’ve already done an automatic retune and this didn’t work, you may need to do a manual retune.”

You can find further guidance on how to reset your device on the Freeview website.

Recent Freeview channel changes

This comes after Brits were urged to retune their TVs last month, following a Freeview update which saw changes made to several channels.

OxfordMail reported that Blaze+1 moved from Channel 81 to 92, while Rewind TV swapped Channel 92 for 81.

Among the changes were also channel renames and new launches.

Get more quality TV for free

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Reporter

If you’re tired of paying out on several streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ then there are a growing number of free alternatives around.

While many of these alternatives have been filled with obscure content, more big names like Sky have got on board in recent years offering some quality stuff, which is largely archive but still entertaining.

As well as UKTV, Sony and Channel 5 are among the other players getting involved.

If you haven’t already, give Pluto TV a go, it’s available on pretty much all devices including Fire TV Sticks.

On there you’ll find channels from MTV, with Catfish and Geordie Shore.

Some of the classics are real gems too – I found myself watching long-forgotten episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch the other day.
