Fans were surprised by McAfee’s absence from his ESPN show.
But, Netflix, via X, revealed the former punter will star in an upcoming film, The Mosquito Bowl.
He is set to play the role of a US Marine Drill Instructor.
There has been no confirmation that this is the reason he took a break from his show.
McAfee ended up missing three weeks of The Pat McAfee Show but has recently returned.
Numerous personalities filled in for the 38-year-old during his time away.
This included NFL insider Ian Rapoport, analyst Peter Schrager and Kirk Herbstreit.
His usual co-host, AJ Hawk, also continued to feature.
McAfee finally returned on August 27, just ahead of the start of the college football season.
McAfee also took a step back from his WWE commentary duties and revealed why on his show.
He said: “[I’m] continuing to catch up to life as a whole.
“Post-Money in the Bank, pre-Night of Champions feels like a good time.
“I was getting pretty exhausted there.
“Shoutout to everybody in WWE looking out for me, too. Very, very thankful,”
The Netflix film will star Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård, alongside Ray Nicholson and Tom Francis.
