Patrick Mahomes benched after just 48 SECONDS of Kansas City Chiefs preseason game by Andy Reid

PATRICK Mahomes made the briefest possible appearance during the Kansas City Chiefs’ first preseason game.

But he lasted just 48 seconds before being pulled and protected by coach Andy Reid.

Mahomes’ official stat line for the game read one pass attempt, one completion for one yard and a touchdown.

The quarterback played the opening series at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Kansas City recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff by Greg Dortch.

That gave them excellent field position, starting the drive on the Arizona 13-yard line.

Running back Isiah Pacheco reeled off an eight-yard rush on the first play.

Mahomes then dropped back to pass to Tyquan Thorton on the next play.

The pass fell incomplete but there was a pass interference call on Cardinals quarterback Will Johnson.

That set the Chiefs up at the one-yard line on 1st and Goal.

Kansas City drew up a passing play once again.

This time Mahomes took the snap and threw the ball to the right side of the end zone for Jason Brownlee.

Brownlee came down with the catch to give the Chiefs the perfect start to the game with just 48 seconds played.

And that proved to be enough work for Mahomes.

He was replaced by Gardner Minshew for the second series.

Arizona came back to win the preseason game 20-17.
