Pattaya has kicked off its annual flu vaccination drive, offering residents free protection against the seasonal bug as part of a major push to keep the city healthy.
The campaign was launched on Thursday, August 28, at the Pattaya Community Medical Centre (Wat Boon Kanjanaram), where deputy mayors Wuttisak Rermkitjakan and Krisana Boonsawat visited to encourage staff and volunteers while greeting residents lining up for their jabs.
The event, organised by the Public Health Services Division of Pattaya’s Health and Environment Office, aims to make preventive healthcare easily accessible while building herd immunity against influenza. City officials say the programme aligns with Pattaya’s Better Pattaya policy, which focuses on improving public health and wellbeing.
Medical staff, supported by local volunteers (OrSorMor), administered free vaccines covering four flu strains. Attendees were also given advice on reducing their risk of infection and minimising complications if they fall ill.
Health officials reported strong turnout, with residents arriving steadily throughout the morning to take advantage of the free shots. The initiative is designed to reduce both the incidence and severity of influenza cases during Thailand’s seasonal transition, when infections typically spike, reported Pattaya Mail.
Deputy Mayor Wuttisak praised the efforts of medical workers and volunteers, saying that vaccination campaigns not only protect individuals but also benefit the wider community. He urged residents to take advantage of the city’s upcoming flu prevention events.
The next vaccination drive is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2 at the Khlong Dong Tan area of Jomtien Beach. The event will run from 9am to 3pm, offering free shots to all residents on a first-come, first-served basis.
