A construction camp in Phatthalung province was attacked earlier today, with gunmen opening fire using what appeared to be military-grade weapons. The incident occurred at around 1am on September 15, leaving workers shaken but unharmed.
Police Colonel Suphat Khunnui from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, which took place at a canal wall construction site in Chaiburi subdistrict, Mueang district.
Officers found 12 carbine shell casings scattered just 10 metres from the workers’ camp. Two excavators had shattered windows, and nearby homes suffered window damage from stray bullets.

The site supervisor, 29 year old Sarawut, said about ten workers were resting at the time of the incident. Even after the gunfire, none of the workers left their accommodations until the village headman arrived. Several workers reported hearing more than ten gunshots but were too frightened to investigate.
KhaoSod reported that the construction project, awarded to a Saraburi-based company through an e-bidding process valued at 2.5 million baht, is already over 60% complete.
Initial police investigations suggest the attackers approached the site on foot via a secluded path behind the camp. After firing at the excavators, they quickly fled the scene.
Forensic officers are expected to examine the site later today to collect evidence as authorities continue their search for the suspects.
