A POPULAR warehouse store competing with Sam’s Club is set to open four new locations this month.
The store openings come a few months after the retailer opened seven new stores in August.

Costco, said to be “better than Sam’s Club” is opening three stores in the U.S. in October.
The other new location will be opening in Canada, in Mississauga, Ontario.
Costco is a retailer that sells items in bulk. The store requires shoppers to have a membership to enter, with prices starting at $65 a year.
The company has 136.8 million members globally, according to Business Dasher.
Three stores will open in Fruitport, Michigan, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and Indian Land, South Carolina.
NEW FORMAT
Costco is opening one of its Business Centers in Ontario.
According to Costco, over 70% of the products in the business centers are different from what shoppers would find in a standard Costco warehouse.
Business Centers offer products like commercial appliances, individually wrapped snacks and a larger beverage selection rather than books and clothes.
The Ontario location is set to open on October 28, Costco Canada said on Instagram.
According to USA TODAY, the Michigan store will open October 29.
The Pennsylvania store will open on October 30 and the South Carolina shop will open on Halloween.
Costco CFO Gary Millerchip said in March that the retailer’s strategy is to try to open 25 to 30 locations each year, per USA TODAY.
The goal is to open half of the locations in the U.S. while expanding the other half in the international market.
There were 635 Costco locations in the U.S. in September 2025, according to data from ScrapeHero.
BIG OPENINGS
Costco CEO Ron Vachris confirmed at the end of September that at least 35 stores would open next year.
“We plan to open another 35 warehouses in fiscal year 2026, of which are five relocations,” the CEO said on a fourth-quarter earnings call.
“We continue to see significant opportunities for expansion, both domestically and internationally across markets where we currently operate.”
Vachris told investors that 27 stores will be operational by the end of 2025, making the company’s grand total worldwide 914.

Costco has made several policy changes leading to customer backlash.
In January Vachris confirmed the retailer would be switching its food court soda machines back to Coca-Cola products and members were not happy.
“This is disappointing to hear, I guess I’ll be skipping the hotdog now,” one shopper said on Reddit.
“This is a downgrade. Pepsi Max is far better,” said another.
Costco has also been hit with backlash for changing the food court policy where staff called out your order number when your food was ready.
One Reddit user revealed they abruptly left the line over the “crazy” food court change.
