A POPULAR chain that some believe is a better grocery store than Whole Foods is opening in a US state for the first time in a matter of days.
Fans have been anticipating this new store for years, and will be kitted out with a unique feature to this location.

Wegmans is coming to the state of Connecticut for the very first time very soon.
The new store is coming to the Norwalk area on July 23, and will be a 92,000 square-foot space.
The two-story Wegmans will also come with a parking deck with solar panels and a pedestrian bridge.
This will bring customers straight to the upper level of the store.
Wegmans comes with all the hallmarks of a grocery store, but is set apart thanks to its Market Cafe and the prepared food section.
The Market Cafe will be the first thing shoppers will encounter when they enter the store.
But in this area, shoppers can spot a sushi counter, which is an excursive feature to the Norwalk location.
Marcie Rivera, a Wegmans spokesperson said: “The Norwalk beer department will offer one-stop shopping with an unmatched selection of the best quality and value.
“The store will feature more than 500 varieties of domestic, craft, and imported beers, including ‘Craft Your Own’ six-packs and hard ciders along with many non-alcoholic beer, wine, and spirit items.
“Customers can rely on Wegmans’ knowledgeable employees and tastings to help them find the perfect pairing.”
For the rest of the store, customers will see traditional grocery departments such as a butcher, deli, and seafood counter.
The Norwalk Wegmans will also feature a cheese shop with cheeses aged in Wegmans’ caves in Rochester, New York.
Other aisles will feature Wegmans’ brand alongside name-brand items.
MORE NEW STORES
Wegmans has opened several stores so far this year already, and more are being planned for 2026.
On February 26, Wegmans opened a store in Lake Grove, New York, and on June 25, it opened a store in Rockville, Maryland.
This 80,000 square-feet store marked its eight location in the state.
Then, moving in 2026, stores are being planned for a number of states in the US.
There are currently plans to open in Charlotte, North Carolina and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
There are no opening dates given for these stores yet, however.
Dan Aken, vice president of real estate and store planning at Wegmans, revealed that the company has had requests to come to Pittsburgh for years.
He said: “We’ve received thousands of requests for a Wegmans in the Pittsburgh region since opening our first Pennsylvania store over 30 years ago.
“We’re excited to have finally found the right location to bring Wegmans to the Pittsburgh area.”
