Two patients have been reported in North Carolina, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On Wednesday, Country Eggs, LLC pulled back cartons of its large brown cage-free eggs, the Food and Drug Administration reported.

The affected lines were sold under the names “sunshine yolks” and “omega-3 golden yolk.”

As of this week, 95 people have fallen sick with Salmonella infections tied to the eggs.

Eighteen of them have been hospitalized, officials said.

No deaths have been reported in connection with the outbreak.

The CDC warned that the true number of sick people is likely far higher.

That’s because many recover at home and are never tested for Salmonella.

Delays in testing also mean newer cases may not yet be counted.

Shipments went out between June 16 and July 9 in California and Nevada.

The eggs appeared in cartons branded Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho and Nijiya Markets.

Packaging carried sell-by dates ranging from July 1 through September 18.

The agency urged people to check their fridges for recalled cartons.

Anyone who finds the products should throw them away immediately.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that attacks the intestines, usually spread through contaminated food or water.

Symptoms:

  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach cramps
  • Fever
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Chills and headache
  • Blood in stool

How long it lasts
Most people recover in a few days to a week, though diarrhea can linger up to 10 days.

When to see a doctor
Seek medical help if illness lasts more than a few days, is paired with high fever or bloody stools, or shows signs of dehydration.

Surfaces and kitchen items that touched the eggs should be cleaned, the CDC said.

Doctors advise calling a healthcare provider if severe symptoms develop.

These include diarrhea with a fever topping 102 degrees.

Other red flags are vomiting, dehydration, or diarrhea lasting more than three days.

Officials continue to investigate the multistate outbreak.
