A POPULAR fast food chain that some dub “better than Chipotle” is set to open at least 40 spots this year.
The openings will span four cities in the US and take the chain into new markets.

Sweetgreen, the chain known for its plant-forward menu, will soon be available in four new cities.
The fast-casual chain serves bowls that customers can tailor to their own appetities.
This includes choices of caramelized garlic steak, wild rice and other combinations.
Sweetgreen has already opened a number of restaurants this year, and more are coming very soon.
Chris Tarrant, the chain’s chief development officer, told USA Today that Sweetgreen has already opened eight new spots this year.
This includes one that opened on Tuesday, found in Santa Clara, California.
And customers in Huntersville, North Carolina can look forward to a new Sweetgreen opening on Thursday, June 12.
So far, Sweetgreen has opened locations in states like Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan.
The Sweetgreens opened in 2025 so far include:
- Pennsylvania: 1359 Frankford Ave. Suite 2, Philadelphia
- New Jersey: 221 East Broad Street, Westfield
- Connecticut: 110 Albany Turnpike, Suite 911, Canton
- Virginia: 3502 West Cary Street, Richmond and 4225 Fairfax Corner Ave. East, Fairfax
- Wisconsin: 418 N Midvale Blvd. Madison
- Michigan: 260 North Adams Road, Rochester Hills
All this growth has seen fans flock to hype up Sweetgreen online.
One person posted on Facebook: ” Unpopular opinion.
“Sweetgreen is better than Chipotle.”
NEW MARKETS
By the end of the year, Sweetgreen plans to have opened at least 40 new restaurants.
The rest of Sweetgreen’s 2025 expansion will see it entering new markets.
Sweetgreen is opening in new places, like Sacramento, Phoenix, northwest Arkansas and Cincinnati.
In Arkansas, Sweetgreen will set up shop in Fayetteville and Bentonville.
At the Bentonville spot, Sweetgreen will be set up on Walmart‘s home office campus, and join other names like Ozark Mountain Bagel and Wright’s Barbecue.
Two of the new locations will also be drive-thru where customers can order food through the digital platform.
One of those drive-thru spots will feature new Infinite Kitchen technology.
It can dispense greens, dress bowls and plates and mix salads, allowing team members to focus on other tasks.
The tech was first launched back in 2023 at a spot in Naperville, Illinois.
The company said back then: “Team members add the final touches at the finishing station, with a sprinkle of herbs or a scoop of avocado.”
About half of the locations opened in 2025 will feature the Infinite Kitchen tech, too.
It is not known which locations will be treated to the Infinite technology, however.
Then, Sweetgreen is looking ahead to 2026, and to growing its footprint further.
Tarrant said: “We look forward to serving more communities as we expand our footprint with 15%-20% annual unit growth and offer different formats to meet our guests where they are.”
