Popular ice cream maker and Ben & Jerry’s rival brings back fan-favorite treat after 5 years – you have to move quick

A BEN & Jerry’s rival has officially returned a beloved ice cream flavor for a limited time after fans begged for its revival.

As Blue Bell Creameries restocks grocery shelves with the cookie-inspired dessert, fans must move quickly to get their hands on the sweet frozen treat.

Blue Bell, a popular ice cream maker based in Brenham, Texas, has listened to customers’ pleas and brought back the discontinued Cookie Cake ice cream flavor.

The fan-favorite flavor hit the shelves last week, and shoppers are racing to buy the frozen treat before it disappears again.

It is available in both the pint and half gallon sizes.

The Cookie Cake flavor is made with a sweet cream ice cream base, chock-full of chocolate chip cookie cake pieces as well as swirls of chocolate and vanilla icing, per the Blue Bell website.

The ice cream maker shared the sweet news in a post to Instagram, and foodies were quick to express their delight.

“Bless these revivals. I’ve never had this – stocking my freezer up!” praised one fan.

“Got some today. Awesome!!” said another.

Blue Bell fans, however, were disappointed to discover that the treat would only be around for a limited time.

“Finally!! We need this permanently available!!” begged one shopper.

“Oh please noooo with the limited time!!” cried another.

BITTERSWEET GOODBYE

The Cookie Cake ice cream rolled out at grocery stores six years ago, but to the dismay of fans, was discontinued in 2020.

The beloved flavor was axed as part of Blue Bell’s practice of periodically rotating flavors to keep its selection exciting and up to date with consumer demand.

The company revived the flavor one year after Cookie Cake was named runner-up in Blue Bell’s Great Scoop Revival Flavor Tournament.

The Groom’s Cake flavor took the top spot and was relaunched at retailers on May 1, still available at stores nationwide.

Blue Bell hosted its Great Scoop Revival Flavor Tournament in 2024 to determine which discontinued fan-favorite flavor would return to store shelves for a limited time. Fans could vote between 16 flavors:

  • Groom’s Cake
  • Red Velvet Cake
  • Hot Fudge Brownie
  • Raspberry Fudge Brownie
  • Cherry Amaretto Cordial
  • Gingerbread House
  • Mocha Madness
  • Tiramisu
  • Creole Cream Cheese
  • Key Lime Pie
  • Cookie Cake
  • Lemon Bliss
  • Triple Caramel
  • Triple Chocolate

Similar to the Cookie Cake flavor, shoppers can only get another taste of the ice cream for a limited time.

Although Cookie Cake came in second place in Blue Bell’s tournament, the company decided to answer fans’ wishes and bring back the Cookie Cake flavor too because it was such a close race.

Both flavors were chosen from a list of 16 Blue Bell options, including flavors like Blueberry Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, and Gingerbread House.

Many shoppers have already scooped up a carton or two of the Cookie Cake flavor before it’s gone, while others are begging for Blue Bell to bring back different flavors.

Foodies are vying for another taste of the company’s Peach Cobbler, Confetti Cake, Chocolate Almond Marshmallow, and Milk n Cookies ice creams, all of which have been axed from the shelves in recent years.

Blue Bell is not the only brand dropping popular products.

For example, Starbucks discontinued a beloved drink – but Trader Joe’s fans are raving after the chain launched a perfect dupe for just $1.99 a can.
