Powerball jackpot surges to $950 million ahead of Saturday’s drawing – it’s the 6th largest prize in the game’s history

HISTORY has been made in the Powerball lottery, after the jackpot ballooned to the sixth-largest the game has ever seen.

The $950 million jackpot comes after three months of players being unable to match all the numbers required, but there’s another chance coming up for you to win.

The jackpot increased yet again after nobody was able to win it on the Wednesday night drawing.

Players had the chance to walk away with a whopping $861 million.

This jackpot surpassed the $841 million prize won in Michigan on January 1, 2024.

But now, players have another opportunity, with the drawing on Saturday night set to pay out a cash option of $428.9 million if there is a jackpot winner.

To play the Powerball, you have to purchase a ticket for $2.

Tickets are available at gas stations, convenience stores and grocery retailers.

Each slip requires six numbers to be picked, with five of them being white balls numbered 1 to 69.

Matching all five of these, plus the sixth red Powerball, is what you need to do to win the jackpot prize.

Selecting the Power Play option for an extra dollar increases the winning for all non-jackpot prizes.

It can multiply your winnings up to ten times.

When buying your ticket, you have the option to pick the numbers yourself or have them chosen at random.

The last Powerball jackpot was won at the end of May.

The winning ticket was worth $204.5 million and was sold in California on May 31.

Three players from Mississippi, Ohio and Virginia won $2 million each when they played the Match 5 + Power Play option.

Another group of three from Arizona, New York and Virginia won $1 million each.

The win in New York is the third million-dollar win the state has seen in just a week.

It follows a resident located in East Northport, named Francis Cangemi, who won $1,000,000 from the Gold scratch off.

Cangemi bought the ticket at Half Off Cards in Selden, per the outlet GreaterLongIsland.com.

He selected the lump sum of $670,000 instead of payments in instalments over the course of a few years.
