Monika Khanna, who is seen as the main antagonist in Sun Neo’s Prathaon Ki Odhe Chunri: Beendani, feels excited about the arrival of Bappa this year. She talks about the significance of Ganesh Chaturthi and talks about why it is so special for her.
Reflecting on her thoughts on regional variations in celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, she says, “I have only seen Ganesh Chaturthi being celebrated grandly in Mumbai. When you talk about regional variations of the festival, Ganpati Bappa is also being brought home in Delhi now. I have not experienced the fervour in other states. But all have a unique way to welcome Bappa. For me, he comes as my baby.”
Monika talks about a significant milestone for her this year. “This is my 16th year of bringing Bappa home. I try to welcome him with love and care, like he is a small kid.”
On its significance, she says, “We start every task by taking the name of Bappa. The festival takes away all our worries. Mumbai’s Ganpati festival is something which makes the place come alive, forgetting all the worries and sorrows.”
She lists the delicacies she likes. “I like Modak that Mumma makes. Besan Ka Laddoo is also a delicacy I like. I feed Bappa with toffees, chocolates, etc, which a kid will like to have.”
“I am completely madly in love with the festival. This is one festival where we can eat whatever we want, meet friends and enjoy,” she adds.
Monika talks about a big initiative she takes for Ganesh Chaturthi every year, and urges all to follow the same. “I have been shooting, and will not get off. But I have left it to Bappa to make way for me to visit his pandals. I want to urge everyone to follow the ritual of not taking flowers, sweets, etc, to places you visit. Instead, you take any form of stationery for Bappa, which will make him happier. Stationery will never get wasted, and it will be of use to anyone who is needful of it. I have been following this for fourteen years now. I give this stationery to kids who cannot afford it.”
Wish all a very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!!
