The Princess was awarded the title of Royal Honorary Air Commodore in August 2023, today marks her first visit to the station.

She arrived aboard a helicopter before being escorted to the Quick Reaction Alert facility at the airbase.

Kate wore a stylish light grey fitted suit, paired with a black belt and navy heels for the visit to the air force base.

Her Royal Highness was given a first hand introduction to the site and the work it does as part of the Royal Air Force with staff touring her around the facility.

She then met a cross-section of Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) personnel and viewed a Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon aircraft.

The Princess of Wales will also be speaking with members of the station’s welfare team and other personnel at the site.

And, she is expected to be meeting the families of some personnel serving at the airbase.

Kate heard how the base was awarded the “Stainforth Trophy” for demonstrating excellence on operational activities.

She was seen inspecting a Typhoon fighter jet in a hangar before climbing a ladder to the cockpit where she quizzed RAF personnel about the aircraft.

She was then pictured in the cockpit of the jet at the airbase and even had a go on an RAF Tycoon flight simulator.

The RAF station is one of only two Quick Reaction Alert fighter stations in the UK with the other being in Scotland.
