SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Lincoln County deputies responded to a DUI investigation Saturday night that led to a pursuit and eventual crash.
At 6:39 p.m. Saturday, Lincoln County deputies assisted SD Game Fish and Parks officers with a DUI investigation in the Lake Alvin boat ramp area, according to a press release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).
During the investigation, the driver refused to exit the vehicle and tried driving away. A LCSO Deputy was struck by the vehicle and a patrol car was rammed. The suspect then fled in a vehicle at high speeds.
SD GF&P and LCSO deputies pursued the vehicle.
A few miles south of Lake Alvin the suspect lost control and crashed. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A deputy also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.
The driver was identified as a 46-year-old woman from Sioux Falls. She was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, aggravated eluding, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the crash investigation, and SD GF&P is leading the investigation on the assault/pursuit.
