Residents, visitors enjoy Sioux Falls SculptureWalk

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Sculptures of all colors, sizes and creativity decorate Sioux Falls every year. The exhibit features artists from across the country.

This year is no different—attracting visitors to check out the new display.

“I live on Phillips, and we love the SculptureWalk,” Sioux Falls resident Allison Blumenfeld said. “It’s something we look forward to every year, looking at all the different art.”

Some have already scouted out their favorites.

“I like the pig. The very first one that we saw when we got out of our car was the pig with the hub caps. That was interesting,” Brian Mielke said.

Eighty sculptures were set up in the Cathedral District and downtown this Spring. Now, there’s one less sculpture on the walk.

45-year-old Christopher Buchanan was arrested Thursday for intentional damage to property. Police say he allegedly broke the “Tornado” sculpture that was valued at more than $10,000.

“I was really disappointed to hear that when my husband told me,” Blumenfeld said.

It’s a reminder that all artwork should be admired and respected. After all, the exhibit brings a unique touch to the city.

The SculptureWalk is the world’s largest annual public sculpture exhibit.

“I like just to walk down the street and you just see the different sculptures,” Mielke said.
