TEAM EUROPE held off a thrilling USA comeback to clinch the Ryder Cup on American soil.
Luke Donald‘s men secured victory away for the first time in 13 years on a dramatic final day of singles matches.
The Europeans’ defence of the title was confirmed when Shane Lowry holed a six-foot putt to tie with Russell Henley and earn an all-important half-point.
Team Europe needed just a further 0.5 to win outright in New York, and that came after Tyrell Hatton tied with Collin Morikawa in the penultimate match of the Ryder Cup.
The home crowd made it a fierce atmosphere for the champions with plenty of drama surrounding the American fans and Rory McIlroy across the three days.
There were bust-ups between players and caddies, fans were ejected and controversy over the little-known “envelope” rule.
- Final scoreline: USA 13-15 Europe
