Ryder Cup facing major delays with weather washout set to cause practice havoc for Team Europe and USA

RYDER CUP fans might want to pack for some wet conditions as the forecast rolls in for this week’s action.

Practice rounds began on Monday at Bethpage Black golf course in New York.

Competitors from both Team USA and Team Europe will be eager to get some reps in before the action proper begins on Friday.

However, their chance to do that looks increasingly uncertain as the forecast for Bethpage, NY darkens going into the next few days – according to accuweather.

The grim forecast has already forced Thursday’s opening ceremony to be brought forward to Tuesday as the organisers attempt to avoid the worst of it.

Tuesday’s practice will remain hot and humid, with a chance of thunderstorms arriving in the late afternoon and evening.

This weather is expected to worsen on Wednesday with broken showers peppering the course in warm and muggy conditions.

But it is the last practice session on Thursday that is expected to suffer the heaviest disruption.

There is an 88 per cent chance of precipitation forecast for the day’s action, alongside a probability of thunderstorms over the course.

There is expected to be a southern wind with speeds of 19km/h, and thunderstorm gusts of up to 50km/h.

Four hours of rain is predicted for the day, and that spell could still grow or shift yet.

These are far from the ideal conditions to play golf in, and if the forecasts are to come true, players would be wise to make the most of their time on the course while they can.

The historic course has a record of rain delays at major tournaments[/caption]

Rainfall, if severe enough, could be cause to delay the beginning of the tournament should the weather continue into Friday morning.

And it would not be the first time the prestigious course had suffered rain delays.

The 2002 US Open suffered delays at the venue, and the weather at the 2009 edition of the event forced the final day of play to roll over onto the Monday.

If the course can weather the storm through practice then sunnier skies are on the horizon.

Friday’s forecast is expected to let up, with showers being interrupted by spells of sun and the windy conditions relenting to speeds of a manageable 9km/h.

THE 45th Ryder Cup takes place from September 26-28 with the US team desperate to wrestle back the crown from Europe.

Scottie Scheffler and the American side will battle Rory McIlroy’s European team in New York.

The infamous Bethpage Black course will be the venue for the latest edition of the pulsating golf tournament.

NBC will broadcast the competition in it’s entirety in the United States.

Friday’s foursomes and fourballs will be live on USA Network from 7 am ET to 6 pm ET.

Saturday’s action will take place during the same hours live on NBC.

And Sunday’s singles will also be on NBC from 12 pm ET to 6 pm ET.

Fans can sign up to Fubo TV by CLICKING HERE and watch the Ryder Cup through NBC’s channels.

And if play continues through the opening day then it should be smooth sailing from there.

The weather is expected to improve entering the weekend, with Saturday’s chance of precipitation lowering to just 25 per cent.

The sun should show more as temperatures stabilise with highs of 78 degrees heading into Sunday, providing near perfect conditions to wrap up the tournament.

The players will have to contest with soggy practice conditions and hope that Thursday’s storms aren’t too severe, but if they can make it to the weekend without delay, the stage is set for an idyllic contest on the East Coast.

And what a contest it is set to be, with team USA set to try and reclaim the title after their loss in Italy in 2023.

Even President Trump has been getting involved in the event preparations as he was revealed to be in contact with America star man Scottie Scheffler.

Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy will be the man to watch for Team Europe after his stellar year on the greens, as the Europeans ready to contend with a hostile home crowd in New York.
