SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Bark in the Park is a fundraiser for the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Activities at Pasley Park in Sioux Falls go from 8 a.m. to noon and include a 3K walk and 5K run. There will also be pet contests starting at 11 a.m. including doggie musical chairs, best trick, furriest friend and sloppiest kiss. A free bandana goes to the first 150 dogs registered.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s raises funds to further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. at Falls Park. A ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. with the 1.25 mile walk to follow.
The Tri-State Band Festival features a parade down Main Street in Luverne, MN starting at 9:30 a.m. That’s followed by a field competition starting at 12:30 p.m. at Cardinal Field at the high school.
More than a dozen high school marching bands are competing in the Big Sioux Review in Brandon. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. at Brandon Valley High School, with the competition beginning shortly after 6 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for kids ages 3 to 18.
The Cinch Playoffs at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls include a shooting competition at 10 a.m., steer roping at 1 p.m. and Round 2 of the Governor’s Cup competition at 7 p.m. The finals are at 2 p.m. Sunday. The PRCA event features a purse of more than $1-million.
The South Dakota Festival of Books at the Holiday Inn Spearfish Convention Center includes discussions on The Importance of Books in a Time of Chaos at 9 a.m. Mountain Time, Pursuing Excellence & Healing in a Broken Soul with former Olympic Gold medalist Billy Mills at 11:30 a.m. Little House at 90: reassessing a controversial children’s classic at 2 p.m. followed by a mass book-signing at 4:30 p.m.
Riverview Christmas Tree Farm near Canton is hosting a Pumpkin Festival featuring pumpkin picking, apple cannons, train rides and a rock mining sleuth adventure. The hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $10, free for kids under 35-inches tall.
Pick your own apples during the Fall Festival at Country Apple Orchard, south of Sioux Falls. Other activities include a petting zoo, the apple cannon range and a country store. The hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Fall Festival at Makers Exchange in Tea, SD features dozens of vendors selling hand-crafted items from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be food, including mini apple cider gourmet waffles.
Purchase fresh produce along with other home-grown and home-made items at the Falls Park Farmers Market. It’s open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October.
Wind your way through corn mazes in KELOLAND. They include the Heartland Country Corn Maze southeast of Harrisburg, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Sioux Falls, the Streff Family Corn Maze in Salem, Mazing Acres in Yankton and the Back Forty Beef Adventure Farm near Pierpont.
West Nidaros Lutheran Church near Crooks, SD is hosting a Harvest Festival Supper. Serving time is 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults, $5 for children and free for ages under 5. Carry-outs are also available. A bake sale and farmers market starts at 4 p.m.
You’re invited to make your own beaded corn cobs, mini-yarn pumpkins and bandana pumpkins at AMC Collective in Sioux Falls. The hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday’s hours are 1-4 p.m. The cost is $5 per item. You can also try your hand at rock painting for a free-will donation.
