CLAIRE’S

In August, Claire’s announced that it had filed for bankruptcy protections and planned to close more than 290 stores.

A total of 18 of these will be closed on September 7, which will impact states like New York, Florida, Michigan, California, Oklahoma, and Illinois.

Shoppers can now make the most of huge discount sales at the closing locations.

According to court documents, the store closures are made up up 235 Claire’s stores, and 56 Icing ones, a company owned by Claire’s.

In total, California is set to lose 25 Claire’s stores, while New York will lose 18 and 16 in Illinois and Pennsylvania.

AT HOME

At Home will close 30 stores on September 30 across states including California, Florida, Illinois and Indiana will be affected, according to bosses.

The closing stores are holding sales up to 30% off across every product department leading up to the final day.

At Home filed for bankruptcy on June 16 because of a slump in sales, a debt problem, and economic pressure.

The firm’s CEO Brad Weston said in a statement that At Home was struggling against competition in a crowded market.

He commented: “[At Home is] operating against the backdrop of an increasingly dynamic and rapidly evolving trade environment as we navigate the impact of tariffs.”

KROGER

Two Kroger locations will be closing on September 19, per the United Food & Commercial Workers.

The stores that will be closed are in Abingdon, Virginia and Kingsport, Tennessee.

United Food & Commercial Workers Local 400 Union President Mark Federici said in a statement that these closures directly harm workers.

He said: “The communities served by our members at these stores will suffer as a direct result of Kroger prioritizing Wall Street investors over their customers and hard-working employees.

“Closing these stores will not only result in fewer good, union job opportunities, it will further limit food access in rural areas where there are few if any alternatives to buy groceries – all for a purported ‘modest financial benefit’ to the company.”

The announcement came after Kroger revealed its plan to close 60 stores by 2026.

According to an analysis by Grocery Drive, 39 Kroger stores will close this year.

A total of 18 have already closed, which included 15 Kroger-name stores.

Others that closed included a handful of Harris Teeter, Pick’ n Save and Fred Meyer locations.

In Portland, Oregon, a Fred Meyer store, a brand owned by Kroger, announced that it would be closing around September 20.

The store has stood for over 70 years, and the 250 employees there have been offered transfers.
