SFPD: 4 weekend shootings under investigation

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — Police are investigating four different shootings that happened over the course of the weekend in Sioux Falls.

There were no life-threatening injuries, but police say the number is an outlier.

“I’d say that shootings are more common than they used to be,” Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens said. “Having 4 (shootings) in one weekend is a little unusual.”

The first shooting happened Saturday morning in the 1500 block of south Majestic View Place. Police said three men were arguing outside, when one pulled out a gun and shot another man in the leg. There have been no arrests made.

Another shooting happened early Sunday morning near a parking lot near 11th Street and 2nd Avenue and involved a large group of people fighting. A bystander was shot in the pelvic area as the fight continued. Clemens said it could have coincided with something happening at a nearby bar, but it is still too early to make the assumption.

“A lot of people scattered after the gunshot, so we’re still trying to find everybody and piece things together,” Clemens said.

On Sunday evening, near 12th Street and Summit Avenue, a man was grazed with a bullet near his back after he showed up at a house. Clemens said information was limited.

In the same area later that Sunday evening, another gunshot was fired at a large group of people. Clemens said not everybody stuck around to figure out what happened.

“The only common thread is that it was in the same area,” Clemens said.

No arrests were made in any of the incidents. No person shot has life-threatening injurie, according to police.

KELOLAND News will have more coverage of the weekend shootings on air and online.
