SFPD investigates murder, deadly assault cases

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Sioux Falls Police Department is sharing new details about a murder case and a deadly assault incident.

On Monday, June 30th, 39-year-old Doris High Elk was pushed off a retaining wall near the 8th Street bridge.

Yesterday, High Elk died of her injuries in the hospital. 45-year-old Jubal Rattler was initially charged with aggravated assault.

“There is a potential for, since he is in jail on aggravated assault charges, that those could change or enhanced charges could come pending the results of that autopsy,” Sioux Falls Police Department spokesperson Aaron Benson said.

Police are also investigating an unrelated murder and aggravated assault.

Officers responded to a central Sioux Falls townhome just after 6:30 Thursday morning. 44-year-old Shawn Roubideaux is charged with murder. According to court documents, Roubideaux was wanted for another assault case that dates back to December of last year.

“This call initially started off as an intoxicated subject call in which officers were sent to this apartment to look for an intoxicated subject that was refusing to leave the apartment,” Benson said during Monday’s police briefing.

When officers arrived, they found 36-year-old Daniel Marshall inside. Police said Marshall had visible injuries, and he was unconscious. Witnesses told investigators they saw him hit, kick and head-butt Marshall.

Marshall suffered a brain injury and died over the weekend.

Roubideaux is being held in the Minnehaha County Jail on a $1,000,000 cash-only bond.
Two women are also charged in the case.

Court documents say Alesia BlackBonnet was also seen hitting the victim and that Saige Quinn attempted to clean up some of the blood before authorities arrived.

Depending on autopsy results, police said more charges could be added.
