Shedeur Sanders gesture to Cleveland Browns kicker who missed vital field goal against Bengals spotted by NFL fans

SHEDEUR Sanders caught fans’ attention as the Cleveland Browns lost 17-16 to the Cincinnati Bengals.

This comes despite the 23-year-old rookie quarterback not taking to the field for the Browns.

The Browns suffered an agonizing one-point loss against the Bengals as kicker Andre Szmyt, 26, missed a potential match-winner.

Despite this, rookie Sanders was snapped consoling the kicker after the missed attempt.

He appears to have whispered some words of encouragement into Szymt’s ear as the pair embraced.

Szmyt left four points on the field as he also missed an attempt after Cedric Tillman’s third-quarter touchdown.

These points could have proved crucial for the Browns as they fell narrowly short in their NFL season opener.

It was not an entirely miserable afternoon for Szmyt as he scored an added point and a field goal during the second quarter.

Sanders has been praised for his actions, with a the kicker looking to bounce back throughout the season.

It has been a busy season for Sanders as he enters the league with hopes of emulating his two-time Super Bowl-winning father, Deion, 58.

The quarterback was selected by the Browns with the 144th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft despite expert expectations of an early pick.

He had been picked to join an overcrowded quarterback department at the Browns ahead of the 2025 campaign.

The young quarterback has made a shaky start to life as a Brown as he struggled during pre-season.

Despite this, Sanders has survived in Cleveland, making the 53-man final roster.

Sanders is currently serving as a back-up to veteran first-choice Joe Flacco, 40.

He is battling with fellow rookie, Dillon Gabriel, 24, to be considered as the Browns’ second-choice.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski has denied suggestions that he is sabotaging Sanders’ career following his difficult start.

While Sanders is yet to take a snap for the Browns, he has been keen to share his influence on the sidelines.

Consoling Szmyt is an example of how he can embed himself within the Browns’ system, even when he is not playing.

The Browns, and Szmyt, have a chance for redemption as they travel to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

It will be a battle for revenge from both sides as the Ravens suffered a similarly gruelling 41-40 loss to the Buffalo Bills to begin their season.

There is no confirmation on whether Sanders will play a part for the Browns, despite his best off-field efforts.
