Shedeur Sanders suffers another major Cleveland Browns blow with teammate ‘decision’ over No1 quarterback

SHEDEUR Sanders’ hopes of being Cleveland’s starting quarterback have been dealt another blow.

Sanders, 23, was in a four-way battle to be the Browns’ signal caller in 2025.

But it seems the players have made their preference clear on who should start under center.

According to Cleveland.com reporter Mary Kay Cabot, the likes of Myles Garrett and other leaders know who they want to be the QB.

Veteran Joe Flacco, 40, apparently has the support of the locker room.

Flacco is a former Super Bowl MVP and was called upon last year when Deshaun Watson was injured.

Watson will miss the 2025 campaign, which opened up a quarterback battle.

Flacco is the front runner for the job with Kenny Pickett also in contention.

The Browns traded for former first round pick Pickett this year in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sanders fell all the way to the fifth round before the Cleveland Browns selected him in this year’s NFL Draft.

He was widely tipped to be a first-round prospect.

But the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback suffered an unprecedented fall.

Cleveland took Dillon Gabriel in the third round before picking up Sanders.

And the pair are thought to be in a battle to make the active roster.

The Browns are likely to keep three quarterbacks on the 53-man squad.

That means one of Sanders or Gabriel likely faces being dropped to the practice squad.

Cleveland.com also reported that injured starter Watson has taken Sanders under his wing.

“Watson has been an awesome teammate inside the quarterback room and meeting rooms,” the Cleveland.com report said.

“He’s been a great cheerleader for the four quarterbacks vying for the starting job.

“He’s been especially helpful to the rookies in Gabriel and Sanders, who are working overtime to remain in the starting mix.”

Watson suffered an Achilles injury in October 2024.

He had fallen out of favor with some Browns fans, who cheered the development.

Deion Sanders backed Watson to fight back after the injury.

According to Cleveland.com, Watson is “only too happy to repay the favor” to his son Shedeur.
