Sanders, 23, had made a bright start to his NFL career having been snapped up in the 2025 draft.

He is aiming to perform at his best as he is one of four quarterbacks vying for a spot on the Browns‘ team.

He had done well enough against the Jacksonville Panthers to be handed another opportunity in preseason by coach Kevin Stefanski.

However, he has had a major setback after a terrible outing against the Rams.

The quarterback was sacked five times during the game and only completed three of six throws for just 14 yards.

His worst moment came in one play when he dropped back from the 40-yard line only to be brought down on his own 22,

And fans were left less than impressed as they reacted on social media.

One posted: “F*** you, @Browns. Trade Shedeur.”

A second wrote: “Shadeur Sanders – when you draft your QB off Temu.”

A third commented: “Cut him or trade. The Browns are not going to play him. He would be better off somewhere else.”

A fourth said: “Sanders sucks and he keeps proving it.”

Sanders was eventually benched during the game by Stefanski with just 2:03 left to play.

He admitted he was surprised by the decision as he did not get the chance to win the game himself.

He said: “I didn’t know I was out.

“Yeah, I didn’t know. I was on a bike, I was powering up.

“I was powering up for that two-minute drive because that’s just a situation every quarterback dreams for.

“That’s many situations I’ve been in before, and I thought I was in, so then he told me I wasn’t in and I was like, ‘OK.’”

Stefanski insisted that he wanted to give the opportunity to Tyler Hunter.

He said: “Obviously, we didn’t play great as an offense in the second half.

“That’s never on one person, so we can be better in a bunch of areas and just felt like we wanted to give [Huntley] a last drive.”

On Sanders’ performance, he added: “He’s a competitive kid.

“The plan was to go with [Huntley] there, but I wouldn’t make any more of it than that.”

The outing against the Rams will see Sanders remain fourth inn the pecking order behind No1 Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and rookie Dillon Gabriel.
