Sheinelle Jones’ Today Show return date has been revealed by Savannah Guthrie after the host’s husband died of brain cancer earlier this year.
Sheinelle has been away from her Today spot since last year as her husband, Uche Ojeh, battled glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
He tragically died in May at just 45, and left behind their three children, Kayin, 17, and fraternal twins, Clara and Uche, 13.
In the announcement, Savannah said viewers can expect the fan favorite back on Friday, September 5.
Today will also air Savannah’s taped interview with Sheinelle on Friday as well.
The anchor’s long break is understandable.
On 23 May, Sheinelle’s colleagues on Today tearfully revealed that her husband of 17 years had passed away following a valiant and private fight against brain cancer.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Savannah Guthrie told viewers.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children.
“Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.”
