One Killed in Atlanta

Atlanta police say a man in his 50s was killed after a fight between a woman’s current and former boyfriend turned deadly.

Officers said the suspect, believed to be the current boyfriend, fled the scene, ABC affiliate WSB-TV reported.

Police have been called to the apartment complex several times in the past six months for reported domestic disputes between a woman and her ex-boyfriend, according to the property manager.

The pair share two young children, the manager said.

On Monday morning, the ex-boyfriend allegedly tried to break into the woman’s apartment, sparking a confrontation with another man. That altercation escalated into a shooting.

Authorities have not yet released the names of anyone involved.

After DC Trump Eyes Chicago

The Trump administration’s crime crackdown in DC has included aggressive street sweeps and gun confiscations, with city and federal authorities taking around 150 weapons off the street since Trump declared a public safety emergency nearly three weeks ago.

Attorney General Pam Bondi posted that 105 arrests and 12 illegal guns had been seized, part of a near-daily tally led by US Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

Preliminary reports from federal authorities suggest more than 700 arrests and 91 firearms seized in just over two weeks, with a 40% drop in robberies and auto break-ins reported by local police.

Trump has deployed around 800 National Guard troops to DC, with 100–200 on duty at any time, and reassigned federal agents from agencies like ICE to patrol the city.

He has repeatedly hailed the operation as a success, posting on Truth Social that “DC IS NOW A CRIME FREE ZONE, IN JUST 12 DAYS!!!”

Trump also renewed threats to send federal agents and National Guard troops to Chicago, prompting pushback from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Trump warned Pritzker on social media, saying he must “straighten it out, FAST, or we’re coming!” Pritzker called the plan “unprecedented and unwarranted” and “illegal, unconstitutional, un-American.”

Mayor Johnson signed an executive order, the “Protecting Chicago Initiative,” to affirm city police authority and block cooperation with federal operations.

Johnson warned that deploying the National Guard could inflame tensions and emphasized the city would pursue all legal avenues to protect residents’ rights.
