Compass Group USA Inc., doing business as Canteen, is in hot water over allegations of charging errors on certain vending machines it owns and operates, per the settlement website.
Customers have sued the company, arguing that the machines charged them more than the displayed price for items when they used a debit or credit card.
The lawsuit alleged that Canteen overcharged shoppers’ credit, debit, or prepaid cards without alerting snackers that using a card would incur an extra charge, breaching its contract terms.
Although the vending machine company has not admitted any wrongdoing, Canteen agreed to shell out $6.94 million to absolve the claims against it.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?
The vending machine settlement benefits Americans who bought something from a vending machine owned or operated by Compass Group USA between 2014 and July 9, 2025.
They must have paid with a debit, credit, or prepaid card and have been charged more than the price listed for their items.

Additionally, customers who used a vending machine with a digital shopping cart – a screen that displayed both the cash and credit price – are not eligible for compensation from the settlement.
