Social Security whistleblower issues bombshell warning and claim millions of Americans’ most sensitive info in danger

A SOCIAL Security whistleblower has exposed a bombshell warning regarding an internal breach in the security of the 90-year-old program.

The whistleblower has sounded the alarm that DOGE has put the highly sensitive Social Security data of more than 300 million Americans at risk.

DOGE’s federal efficiency officials employed by the SSA have created an unsecured copy of the country’s Social Security database in a cloud environment, whistleblower Charles Borges claimed on Tuesday.

Borges, chief data officer at the SSA since January, filed a protected whistleblower disclosure with the Office of Special Counsel warning that these officials have evaded oversight protocols to gain access to Americans’ most sensitive data.

The whistleblower’s claims allege that DOGE staff made a live copy of the federal agency’s entire database without independent security measures, potentially putting Americans at risk of widespread identity theft.

Under his role as the SSA’s chief data officer, Borges is tasked with protecting the safety, security, and integrity of public data.

His protected whistleblower disclosure outlined several occasions of “serious data security lapses” from March through July 2025.

“These actions constitute violations of laws, rules, and regulations, abuse of authority, gross mismanagement, and creation of a substantial and specific threat to public health and safety,” reads the disclosure.

If “bad actors” were to gain access to the cloud environment that DOGE created, Americans may be vulnerable to widespread identity theft and even lose vital healthcare and food benefits, per the whistleblower complaint.

The government may also be forced to re-issue every American a new Social Security number.

The vulnerable cloud environment curated by DOGE is “effectively a live copy of the entire country’s Social Security information from the Numerical Identification System.”

The system contains all the data that Americans submit when applying for a Social Security card, including names, birth places and dates, citizenship status, race and ethnicity, parents’ names and SSNs, phone numbers, addresses, and other personal details.

The system “apparently lacks any security oversight from SSA or tracking to determine who is accessing or has accessed the copy of this data,” per the complaint.

SYSTEM SCRAMBLE

DOGE officials have sought to access to Social Security data since the organization’s founding in January 2025, supposedly to address fraud claims.

A lawsuit challenging DOGE’s access to Social Security’s sensitive data led to a temporary restraining order that was effective from March 20 through June 6.

“Mr. Borges’ disclosure describes multiple instances of wrongdoing at SSA progressing from a circumvention of the court’s order in March 2025 to approval of high-risk activities outside of normal review and approval procedures by July 2025,” the Government Accountability Project stated in submitting the complaint.

What is DOGE?

The Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, was an initiative created by President Donald Trump upon his inauguration into office and led by Elon Musk.

DOGE was created to significantly reduce federal spending and “modernize federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.”

When first introduced, it aimed to save as much as $2 trillion annually.

The organization cited that it had saved billion in government spending in its first few months, making significant cuts across multiple agencies, including the Department of Education and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

While Elon Musk left DOGE at the end of his legally defined 130-day term for “special government employees,” the organization is still operating.

Borges raised concerns internally with various authorities in
the CIO’s office and was not made aware of any remedial
action, ultimately filing the disclosure to elevates his concerns to the American public “out of a sense of urgency and duty.”

“Mr. Borges’ bravery in coming forward to protect the American public’s data is an important step towards mitigating the risks before it is too late,” said Andrea Meza, director of campaigns for Government Accountability Project and Borges’ attorney.

Commissioner Bisignano and the Social Security Administration take all whistleblower complaints seriously, a spokesperson for the SSA told The U.S. Sun in an emailed statement.

“SSA stores all personal data in secure environments that have robust safeguards in place to protect vital information.

“The data referenced in the complaint is stored in a long-standing environment used by SSA and walled off from the internet. High-level career SSA officials have administrative access to this system with oversight by SSA’s Information Security team,” said the spokesperson.

“We are not aware of any compromise to this environment and remain dedicated to protecting sensitive personal data.”

The U.S. Sun reached out to DOGE for comment but has yet to hear back.

As fears of unlawful activity are underway at the SSA, beneficiaries are complaining that Social Security “refused” to make payment changes after the rollout of an “inconvenient” law.

Meanwhile, Social Security’s little-known calendar issue means no one will get September SSI payments of up to $1,400.
