Star wide receiver AJ Brown forced to defend cryptic tweets after horrid start to 2025 season with Eagles

AJ Brown has been forced to defend himself after drawing criticism for social media posts.

Following the Philadelphia Eagles‘ win on Sunday, Brown declined to speak with the media after a rough game.

The Eagles won the game 31-25 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Brown had just two catches for seven yards on nine targets.

Brown was clearly upset by this performance, and took to social media a short time after the game to post a quote from the bible.

“If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw,” the quote read.

“Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.”

While the Eagles are 4-0 to start the season, Brown hasn’t had the start many expected of him.

He has caught just 14 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown while being targeted 28 times.

Across a full season, that is on pace for 641 yards and four touchdowns. Those would both be career lows.

There isn’t much hope for things to get better either, as the Eagles are averaging just 138 passing yards per game.

Brown commented on his desire to see the ball more and his controversial social media posts on Wednesday.

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing for wanting the ball,” he said.

“It’s not just for targets or anything, to put numbers up, no.

“I see that we’re struggling and I’m a guy that wants the ball in those times when we can’t find a way.

“Give it to me. When the game’s on the line, give the ball to me. I want that, I want that pressure, I put it on myself, and I work hard for it.

“You can misconstrue whatever perspective about me, but it is what it is, and I don’t care to be honest because my teammates know that when the game’s on the line, look at me.

“And I want everybody in the stadium to know that. It’s not a secret. I’m not shying away from that.”

Brown said he is going to work with his quarterback, Jalen Hurts, to try improving their connection.

However, he said he won’t force his quarterback to give him the ball.

“People said he was forcing me the ball because I’m complaining, but if you ask any of my teammates, I’m probably the quietest one on the sideline,” Brown said.

“I don’t even go to the huddle during the timeouts. I try to let the game come to me.”

Despite the slow start to the season, Hurts said his relationship with Brown is still “good.”
