SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It was an active night in KELOLAND with multiple severe thunderstorms. These storms brought large hail and at one point, a Destructive Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for southern Lyman county as baseball size hail was associated with the storm. Along with the hail, we had multiple wind reports in central and southeastern KELOLAND. Wind gusts over 80 MPH were reported near the Corsica area around 10 PM.

The atmosphere will try to reset today with sunshine, humidity, and heat. Dew point values in the 60s and 70s are expected East River, along with widespread 90s. When combined, heat index values could reach the triple digits. Your outdoor activities won’t be affected for the day, but going into the evening, it will be worth keeping an eye on the sky.

A cold front is expected to move through KELOLAND and increase the chance for clusters of thunderstorms to development along it. Most of KELOLAND is in a slight risk for severe weather for the evening and overnight hours. The main hazards with these storms will be large hail and wind gusts of 60 MPH or greater. An isolated tornado can not be ruled out going into Minnesota.

Winds will turn to the north behind the front and our lows will be in the 60s for tonight. Portions of KELOLAND won’t be quite done with the rain chances yet as another trough slides in for tomorrow and bring scattered rain chances.

More quiet conditions are on the way as a high pressure system settles in on Monday. Temperatures will become more seasonable before a slight warm up towards the end of the week. Going into the 4th of July weekend, it will be worth keeping an eye on the forecast as unsettled weather tries to return.
