Storm Center PM Update: Frost potential tonight and tomorrow

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Similar to the start of this week, another cold front has passed by KELOLAND. The breezy northwest winds ushered in cooler air and temperatures have only climbed into the 50s and 60s today.

Behind the low pressure system, we could see isolated showers this evening and into tonight in eastern KELOLAND. It is going to be a chilly night with a mix of lows in the 30s and 40s.

For some of us, temperatures could fall below 35 degrees. As skies stay mostly clear with light winds, this will bring the opportunity for frost. A Frost Advisory will be in effect overnight for northwestern South Dakota, you will want to make sure to cover any outdoor plants if you are in this area.

We will keep the cooler weather around into tomorrow with highs in the 60s and 70s. The good news is that we will get a break from breezy conditions with light, northerly winds.

As a high pressure system settles into the area for the weekend, it is going to continue to bring little cloud cover and light winds. This means we will be watching more potential for frost Saturday night and into Sunday morning as more lows in the 30s are expected East River.

It won’t be quite the time to put the summer clothes away though as winds are going to become more southerly by Monday and bring us back to seasonable highs. By the end of the week, western and central KELOLAND will climb back into the mid to upper 80s.
