SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It was another day with scattered showers and thunderstorms across KELOLAND. Areas like Huron have picked up over an inch of rain, while Pierre and Watertown have received around a quarter of an inch.

Showers and thunderstorms along and east of I-29 will continue to move out going into this evening. Some of these storms could contain heavy rainfall but most of it will stay sub-severe. That won’t be our last chances for active weather in KELOLAND today as convection will develop in eastern Montana and Wyoming. Most of the activity south of I-90 will eventually diminish during the overnight hours but the storms north of I-90 will persist and push into East River.

We will continue to keep an eye on the sky with these storms as they have potential to be strong to severe. Portions of northwestern KELOLAND are in a enhanced risk, while the rest of West River is in a slight risk. A severe thunderstorm watch is likely to be issued within these areas as these storms are capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts.

Otherwise, the mild weather is going to continue into tonight as lows stay mainly in the 60s. While winds could get gusty within the showers and thunderstorms, they will stay on the lighter side from the south.

More humidity will be on the way as we go into tomorrow with the warmest highs in southeastern KELOLAND. We will start to see a weak cold front move through the area and turn our winds to the north. Along with that, the instability in the atmosphere could spark thunderstorms as the front provides a source of lift.

Another enhanced risk for severe weather is out for tomorrow in portions of southwest Minnesota and far eastern South Dakota. A line of thunderstorms looks to develop during the late afternoon and evening in southwestern Minnesota before pushing off to the southeast. The main hazards are large hail and damaging winds, along with an isolated tornado possible.

More unsettled weather is possible for Tuesday with temperatures getting back into the 70s. It won’t be long though before a big warm up returns for the end of the week with widespread 90s across KELOLAND.
