SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It has been a quiet afternoon for most of us in KELOLAND with little cloud cover and temperatures mainly in the 80s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed in southeastern South Dakota, northwest Iowa, and southwestern Minnesota. Those will linger and begin to diminish around sunset. We are not quite done with thunderstorm activity today as our attention will turn to the west. A portion of western South Dakota is in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1 AM MDT/2 AM CDT Sunday.

A line of thunderstorms is expected to move in from Montana and Wyoming late this evening and into the overnight hours. The main hazards will be damaging wind gusts, large hail, and brief tornadoes. If you have any outdoor plans in this area tonight, make sure to have a plan B just in case!

The showers and thunderstorms will move eastward tonight and into central South Dakota. Clouds will break up East River with lows falling into the 50s and 60s.

Rain will try to hang around for the day tomorrow in portions of western and central South Dakota. The rest of us will remain dry with highs below average in the 70s and 80s.

Dry conditions are looking to hang around for next week with on and off chances for showers and thunderstorms. The best opportunity for this will mainly be during the overnight hours. By the middle of the week, a ridge will move in and bring back the heat. Highs in central and western South Dakota will climb into the mid to upper 90s by Wednesday.
