Storm Center PM Update: Unsettled Overnight; Not As Hot to Follow

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — It’s been another hot and humid day across central and especially eastern portions of KELOLAND, but the good news is that today will be the last day like this.

The catch is that we’ll have to navigate a potentially unsettled evening and night. With the arrival and subsequent passage of a cold front, we’ll sweep the intense heat and humidity out of the region. Until we get that, though, we’ll have to keep an eye on the skies as we go through and beyond the midnight hour.

A Marginal and Slight risk for severe weather will remain in place for eastern and southern KELOLAND. With plenty of heat and moisture to work with, any storm that can break through the cap and tap into that energy will have a lot of fuel to work with. All forms of severe weather are on the table, with large hail and gusty winds being the main concerns. An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out as well. Please stay weather aware as we head through the night.

A few showers and storms will be possible to the south and east of Sioux Falls as we go into the day on Monday, but much of the region should remain quiet. Everyone, however, gets in on noticeably cooler and more comfortable conditions…especially East River compared to the last several days.

Another chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives on Tuesday. Just like this evening, some of those storms may become strong to severe.

A Marginal Risk for severe weather is in place along and south of the I-90 corridor and up to northwestern South Dakota. A Slight Risk is also in place for the southwestern corner of KELOLAND. Wind and hail are the main concerns.

A daily chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain in place through the second half of the work week. Some days will have better chances than others, but you’ll want to keep an eye on the skies all the same if you have any outdoor plans. At least temperatures will be much closer to average for this time of year.

By next weekend, we’ll be near and above average once again on the thermometer…but it won’t be as intense of warm-up. We’ll also try to dry out a bit at the same time.

Here’s a look at your extended forecast:
