SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The last 48 hours have been wet across KELOLAND, but we are going to start to see a change as we head into this weekend. As the low pressure system exits the area, so will the rain and thunderstorms. Here is a look at the extra rain we have received in the last 24 hours:

It will be a nice break from the rain for tonight with lows in the 50s and 60s. Clouds will begin to break up in portions of KELOLAND with patchy fog possible to the east by tomorrow morning.

Highs are going to get back to above average for most of us with highs in the 80s East River and 90s West River. It will be an overall pleasant day before we watch a shortwave trough move into KELOLAND. Southerly winds will help bring in moisture and create instability in the atmosphere by the late afternoon.

This will create the chance for showers and thunderstorms to occur, some of which could be strong to severe. Central KELOLAND is in a slight risk for severe weather with a marginal risk surrounding it. The strongest storms could produce large hail and damaging wind gusts.

The heat will linger into Saturday with more widespread 90s across KELOLAND. As a cold front moves eastward into the evening hours, there will be another threat for severe weather. Main hazards with storms that fire up will be large hail and wind gusts up to 60 MPH or greater.

The heat won’t last for too long as we return to near average highs for the beginning of the week. Periodic rain chances will return going into the end of the week, it will be worth keeping an eye on the forecast as the 4th of July approaches next Friday.
