SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Wednesday storm that appears to have followed a path along Iowa State Highway 9 caused damaged to several towns in northwestern Iowa.
Damage was confirmed in Rock Rapids, Little Rock, Sibley, Allendorf and Ocheyedan.
“There’s a lot of trees down, some were of a good diameter, some roofs damaged. I’m trying to get it all assessed now,” Corey Shearer, the Osceola County Emergency Manager, said just after 4 p.m.
Sibley, Allendorf and Ocheyedan are in Osceola County while Rock Rapids and Little Rock are in Lyon County.
Shearer said the damage in Sibley was spread across the city which is the county seat. He believed that several semi-trucks were turned on their sides on U.S. Highway 60 north and Highway 9, both north of the city.
Shearer said only a little rain fell with the storm but “A dust cloud came across. It was all wind,” he said.
He also said storm damage had been reported in Allendorf and Ocheyedan. There’s more than 500 customers without power in northwest Iowa communities according to Alliant Energy.
The grocery store in Little Rock said it was operating on a generator shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday. Most of the town was without power.
