Suspect arrested after man found dead outside Orange County library

A suspect was arrested after a man was found dead outside a library in Orange County.

On June 2, Westminster police responded to an unresponsive man on the 8200 block of 13th Street in Westminster at 6:15 p.m.

The victim, who was only identified as a homeless man, was pronounced dead at the scene. No suspect was found nearby, but the death was being investigated as a homicide.

Collected evidence helped detectives identify James Metcalf, 54, of Westminster, as the primary suspect, the Orange County Register reported.

Metcalf was already in police custody on suspicion of vandalism. Details on how detectives linked Metcalf to the murder were not provided.

Metcalf was arrested earlier in the day near the area where the body was later found, police told the O.C. Register.

It’s unclear whether the suspect and the victim were known to each other. No further details, including the victim’s identity or the nature of his fatal injuries, were released.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Figueroa at 714-548-3783 or the Westminster Police Watch Commander at 714-548-3767.

Anonymous tips can be provided to OC Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-6227 or online at occrimestoppers.org.
